King of the Road
We are finally back in England (as opposed to Wales). We survived our first long-range journey in left-side driving. It definitely got easier as we went. I was quite worried this morning before we left - mostly about the roundabouts. They are easy to use, but if they are busy, and you aren't completely confident in what you are doing or where you are going, then it can be very harrowing indeed. But not to worry, we had no problems at all. The only hiccup was near Evesham where the directions on the AA Route Finder (AA=AAA) map that we had printed were quite weird and confusing and sent us in the wrong direction. We fixed it almost immediately however, and were back on track to Chipping Campden. All told, the trip took about four hours and we stayed on A roads the entire time (translation - US Highways and State Roads).
Before we go any further, we really need to stop and say a really huge thank you to Andy and Sue for letting us stay in your flat. It was more than generous and we really enjoyed our stay. We mailed the key back today, so it should be waiting for you when you return from holiday - enjoy southern France!
Also, we forgot to let Wil know that we have encountered some pay toilets along the way, including this morning when we stopped about an hour and half into the journey. Not to worry, though, it was only 20p each - so not like in Switzerland where it was a whole franc.
At any rate, we are now in Chipping Campden our our B&B (The Dragon House) is absolutely beautiful. The gardens are more than the internet pictures portrayed. We've already taken several pictures of them we were so impressed (we'll post them when we can get on with the laptop). The town is about as cute as possible - any more and it would probably explode! We are really looking forward to some day-hikes and other day trips from here over the next four days. We are using the library to get online at the moment, but Valerie (the B&B owner) said there is a pub down from us that has wireless, so we'll probably be using that over the weekend. I'm quite sure we'll have lots of pictures to share. By the by, we are noticing there aren't a whole lotta comments lately - you guys out there? We love hearing from you!
Emily will write more tomorrow after we have explored some more.
Cheers for now!
