...And...We're off!

We have our Passports, our Plane and Train tickets, our computer, two suitcases packed and ready, all of our B & B confirmations, and we are armed with a Great Britain Road Atlas provided by Emily's parents friends, Gill and Roy Streatfield - we are ready to go!

We hope that you enjoy this blog. Please feel free to leave comments. We'll enjoy hearing from all of our friends as we will be absent for a month. Also, please feel free to send suggestions as you peruse our itinerary. We have a lot of specifics that we want to see, but we also have a lot of free time to roam and be spontaneous.

As of now, the highs in London are around 58F and Edinburgh is around 55F. It will be very nice to get away from the Florida heat and humidity for one of the hottest months of the year. It will definitely help with the electric bill - unless Jamey and Scott play entirely too much Wii on the big TV while we are gone. Even so, Emily is a little concerned that she is going to need more sweaters. I suppose she'll use it as an excuse to go shopping. She has mentioned several times that she would love to have a genuine Scottish Wool "jumper". On the other hand, I'm very excited about the cool. I think that the English concept of summer is going to agree with me - despite the rain.

We'll try to update our blog when we reach York on Wednesday evening (GMT - Greenwich Mean Time - which is 5 hours ahead of EST, for those of you who were unsure). Our plan is to take some Unisom and sleep on the plane so that we won't be too taxed with getting from Gatwick to London, then getting through London from Victoria Station on the South to King's Cross on the North (yes, we will be getting Emily's picture in front of platform 9 3/4), and then on to York.

So, Cheerio, and we'll see you in York!

We are SO envious - so I will check this site regularly.

Be sure to go to the market towns on market days - you can access all of those at a website I don't remember but can also get a list for each area at the local tourist centers - all kinds of stuff - from handmade purses to underwear to baked goods and fish.

Hugs to Sue and Andy!

I am so excited for you two. It sounds like great weather - much better than we went five years ago. We were there for a heat wave that felt just like May/June heat and humidity in FL - without air conditioned rooms, no less. All the Brits were running around with vivid red cheeks from the unusual heat! Have a great time and enjoy every minute of it.
